This time, we would like to talk about offset.

What is offset?

The offset of a wheel is the distance from the hub mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel. The wheel offset is measured in millimeters and results in a positive, negative, or zero offsets.

What is the positive & Negative setting in offset?

Positive offset

Positive offset is when the hub mounting surface is toward the front or wheel side of the wheel. It is common to find a positive offset in newer and front wheel drive vehicles.

Negative offset

Negative offset is when the hub mounting surface is toward the back or brake side of the centerline of the wheel. A negative offset wheel usually has a “deep lip”

Zero offset

Zero offset The hub mounting surface is even with the centerline of the wheel.

Positive: The wheel sits further away from the chassis, moving the tire away from the car

Positive Offset – makes your car go wider caused the car to run more stable.

Negative Offset – makes your car go narrow, it will lead your car easy to steering.

First of all, you are going to need a Caliper to measure the degree.

We prefer to use a Digital Caliper as it is more accurate measurement and you can easy to know how much it is.

Step 1: Measure the rim width to finding the middle

To measure the entire width of the rim by using your caliper. After the measurement, the result of the entire width had been found.

Left (RUSH RUI-Mini V Star High Rim Wheel 4pcs White #RU-0368) – 24.18mm

Right (RUSH LM Mini Rim Offset 0 4 pcs White #RU-0436) – 24.23mm

Then divide that by 2 so that we can get the halfway point measurement of your tire.

Left – 12.09

Right – 12.115

Step 2: Measure The Depth Of The Mounting Hex Slot

After we defined the middle, the next step is how deep the inner mounting hex. To measure it with a flat piece of material – plastic board, we measure the depth of the hex by placing the plastic board over the rim’s inner side and measuring the distance.

Here is the result!

Left – 20.78

Right – 19.38

Since the measurement was taken (Left – 20.78, Right – 19.38) include the width of the plastic board that we used, measure the plastic board’s width and subtract that from the total. (In this case, the plastic board was 3.77mm).

Left: 20.78 – 3.77 = 17.01mm

Right: 19.38 – 3.77 = 15.61mm

Step 3: Calculate The Offset

We got the result!

Middle

Left – 12.09

Right – 12.115

Deep of the inner mounting hex

Left: 20.78 – 3.77 = 17.01mm

Right: 19.38 – 3.77 = 15.61mm

Formula: Middle Point – Deep of the inner mounting hex

Left: 12.09 – 17.01 = 4.92mm

Right: 12.115 – 15.61 = 3.495mm

So, we got the answer now!

Another Example!

In fact, most of the RC brand/factory will remark how much is the offset degree in the wheel!

As you can see, the offset degree is 6mm and positive.

Even most of the RC brand/factory will remark it, but you have to know how to calculate it as a different standard in thier calculation.
