Some time ago Gery presented the new Xtra Speed XH Aluminum 6061 T6 – cnc milled aluminum axles for the Axial SCX-10. Now we are testing them.

My son has always been a fan of the Axial Wraith, but we needed to use more narrow axles to participate in the Austrian Scale Team Series (ASTS). This is a competition, where the teams are randomly put together and four sections have to be managed helping each other in a scale manner. For this project the Xtra Speed axles are perfect and I am really happy to be able to use those in my son’s car.

The Chassis is a Axial SCX-10 with a Wraith cage mounted to the frame. The transmission is a stock SCX-10 transmission.

The axles are preassembled and ready to use. They include metal gears, aluminum C-Hubs, High clearance Knuckles, a plate to mount the servo and CVDs. The steering angle is impressive and the gears are well lubricated. All the screws, that I took apart, were treated with thread-lock.

Our experiences with the Xtra Speed axles

The first impression was really great. The play in the parts is really low and the materials appear to be high quality. I have already had some aluminum axles from other manufacturers, but none of them were of this quality. The link mounts are well engineered so the tires don’t hit them when on the steering stops. The axles include ball bearings and CVDs. All you need combined with a price that’s hard to beat.

Testing

After several test rides (including one ASTS Competition) my son and I have the following results:

– Price outstanding

– Steering angle really good

– Very robust

– Lower center of gravity of the car due to increased weight compared to stock
